What Case Studies is All About

What can the year 1939 tell us about our healthcare system today?

Do factory occupations by Argentine workers back in 2001 mean anything to us now?

What does Star Trek’s The Trouble With Tribbles say about how we look at other countries?

There are, in fact, actual answers to all these questions (and good ones, too!)—so come enjoy locally crafted drinks and delicious food, while we use specific case studies from history like these as a jumping off point to explore their impact on politics, fashion, economics, science, culture, and how it all relates to our civic life today.

An example from our Case Studies: 1939

We’ll be creating a mini-world’s fair of sorts, with these confirmed exhibitions:

  • Video installation about the ignored stories of people of color, the role of technology, and other weird stuff from digital designer Michelle Lim

  • Performance about the introduction of Superman and Batman from Stephen Brackett (Brer Rabbit of Flobots) and Mitch Slevc.

  • How the Wizard of Oz tells the story of The New Deal and labor fights with Metro Film Professor and Sie Film Center Lecturer Vincent Piturro, plus poetry from Phil Woods

  • History of the Association of Southern Women for the Prevention of Lynching from World War II veteran and historian/writer Ed Wood

  • Printmaking of Resistance to the Nazi’s from Rick Griffith’s MATTER studio

  • Stories of the LGBTQ community in Denver from historian David Duffield

  • Learn an anti-fascist song in Yiddish from professor David Shneer

  • Chat on the horrors of Nationalized Health Care from politics lover Chris Getzan

  • Test your knowledge of the Spanish Civil War with instructor Evan Weissman

You’ll come and wander around the fair, learn some things you didn’t know, offer up some things you do know, and then we’ll converse about how these things relate to today and what we can do about it…
